New Year
Hello all. Welcome to 2010. I hope you had a terrific holiday season with family and friends, got a chance to relax and regroup, and are looking as forward as I am to 2010. We have some news to share regarding changes here at Travel Photographers Network. Let's dive right in.
New Site
As you have noticed, TPN has a new site design thanks to the folks at Internet Dreams out of Surrey, England. Jim worked with them early in 2009 to develop requirements for a fresh new site. We flipped the switch on the new site in the late summer of 2009, spent quite a few months kicking the tires and working out the kinks, and now are fully functional with our new site. Kudos to Jim for his leadership and investment, and to project manager Paul Flemming and developers at Internet Dreams for their efforts, much of it on their dime, to provide us an attractive, fresh new face.
New Editor
After many years of manning the helm, Jim White has offered me the opportunity to take over Travel Photographers Network. As of January 1st, I am the new owner and editor. It was a tough, bittersweet decision for Jim to come to after investing half a decade of his own time and resources developing our great community into what we have today. I would like to personally and publicly thank Jim for his years of dedication as editor of TPN. We wish him well in his new personal endeavors and look forward to his continued contributions here as time permits. I would also like to openly thank all of the site moderators (past and present) for their years of voluntary service in helping Jim promote the site and to manage the forums and photo galleries.
New Activity
Site activity has been significantly lower in recent months. This is in part due to the issues around our new site software which we believe to be for the most part resolved. In addition, the latter part of the year tends to get slower as we move into the holiday season. November and December are always slower on TPN as people focus more of their time on family and friends, and spend more time with people and less time with their camera equipment. I don't think we can fault anyone for that. Family and friends will be there when you need them. The camera can't get you soup or medicine or share a good cup of hot chocolate in front of a fireplace.
New Articles
A lot of you may not know that the new site now allows any member to submit an article for consideration right through your regular site login. Just go to the Articles page and click the link in the upper right corner titled "Post A New Article". From there, you will go to a page similar to the comment posting page. You can provide a cover image for your article as well as a carousel of images to accompany it. I encourage everyone to submit an article. We have many categories for articles and we have the flexibility to add/change them over time. If you have an idea for an article and don't see what you feel is an appropriate category for it, send me a note and I can add a new category. Article submissions will be reviewed on a regular basis and are subject to editor approval (that's me).
New Journey
So here we are at 2010. We have a new year, a new site, a new editor, new activity and new articles. I look forward to the opportunity I have been given and the journey ahead. I welcome all feedback so send suggestions for sponsors, articles or any other ideas for the site. Send them to me directly (editor at travelphotographers dot net), post them on the forums or send me a Private Message using the site.
